"Teacher Cherry," i got exams coming up.
Daddy mommy sent you over here so you could learn .....
Hi there parents, thank you so much for dropping by our blog. My name is Johan, together with my wife Cherry, are the founders of Kids Public Speaking, a program to teach public speaking to kids.
Johan Speaking Academy have trained public speaking to kids since 2014, and 1000 of them has stepped on stage to speak.
Today, i will be sharing with you 5 ways to teach public speaking to kids. They may be your child, or you are a teacher at school, or you can just use this knowledge to help a child.
Tip 1 : Tell kids it is ......
Sharing a story to your friends, say hello to a friends or sharing a message. While they may not have heard the word "public speaking", we will do our very best to tell them something relatable.
While i am standing there in the middle telling them this, i will point to myself, see....just like this.
Tip 2 : Always have fun.
"Do you all like to have fun ?" Cherry asked.
"YES !!" they replied.
"Are you sure ? " Cherry asked again.
"YES !!"they replied.
Parents, kids have enough homework and exams as part of the school syllabus, that is why we do not want to bore them with the things they are already experiencing in school.
Tip 3 : Give them positive feedback
It is easy to give negative feedback. A lot of times, people tend to spot weaknesses faster than spotting a strength. But in this class, never do that if they are kids.
Use words like , Amazing ! Well Done ! Good Job ! I am proud of you !
This words of encouragement when teaching kids public speaking will help them boost their self esteem and confidence at the same time.
Tip 4 : Practice
Public speaking just like any skill, need constant practice. Please do not bore them with so much theory, let them practice more.
Mix elements like fun, practice and a bit of theory ( techniques ) to them. Rotate these elements and they will be happy to learn.
Tip 5 : No marking
While in school, kid are usually graded and let known their results. This is very good in the academic world. What about public speaking ?
Myself and Cherry looked at progress differently.
Kids stepped on stage once. YES !
Kids stepped on stage twice. YES !
Kids stepped on stage three times. WOW !
Note : If you really want to mark them, just let yourself know the score. Or maybe pass the information to their parents. We do not want to discourage kids with scoring system.
Hope these 5 tips will be useful for you. Thank you so much and do LIKE our facebook page at www.fb.com/KidsPublicSpeaking
